开玩笑 (kāi wánxiào) To Make a Joke

开玩笑 (kāi wánxiào) To Make a Joke (Intermediate)
The character “开 (kāi)” literally means to open but here means to make; “玩 (wán)” means to play and “笑 (xiào)” means laugh or smile.
Example:
A: 哥们儿，外面有个美女找你呢！
Gēmenr, wàimiàn yǒu gè měinǚ zhǎo nǐ ne!
Brother, there is a beautiful girl looking for you outside!
B：(跑出去后又跑进来) 在哪儿呢？我怎么没看见啊。
　 (Pǎo chūqu hòu yòu pǎo jìnlái) Zài nǎ’ér ne? Wǒ zěnme méi kànjiàn a.
(Ran out and then ran in) Where is she? How did I not see her?
A: 哈哈！跟你开玩笑呢！
Hāhā! Gēn nǐ kāi wánxiào ne!
Ha-ha! I was just kidding!
